The THINK RED campaign was designed by a group of individuals and grassroots organizations in Illinois who believed that we needed a way to unify the right-minded people in Illinois.
The unifying objective of ALL Republicans in Illinois is the desire to make Illinois a "red" state by 2008.
THINK RED is an obvious reference to what has become one of the most talked about ideas in politics today - the Red State vs. Blue State divide.
The national media is constantly mentioning "red state values" as a key reason for Bush's success last November. THINK RED is designed to leverage this idea and well understood concept, in order to get people focused on the need to become more like a red state - a state that can win for a real Republican like George W. Bush.
THINK RED is a new paradigm for the way right-minded people think about how to win. Similar to the "What Would Jesus Do?" phrase, which began as a way to draw attention to the teachings of the Bible, "THINK RED" is a thought provoking phrase reminding people of the principles of the Republican National Platform and Renew Illinois' Contract with the People of Illinois. It's also a strong reference and show of respect to our Commander in Chief, and a recognition that while we didn't make the state "red" for him in either of his races - we are committed to recognizing our state's and our Party's problems and making the necessary changes to reverse the tide.
We may all live in a "blue" state, but that's all the more reason why we should THINK RED.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
THINK RED's audience is simply anyone who is not happy living in a state that is described as solidly Democrat - and one of the "bluest" of the states which went for Kerry-Edwards last year.
Conservative Democrats should also be considered part of THINK RED's audience. Whether they are labeled Reagan Democrats or Bush Democrats these are people who believe that warming up one of the bluest of blue states with some compassionate red-tones would be a good thing.
While a simple concept - THINK RED represents one of the most positive, truly unifying efforts Illinois politics' has seen in a long time.
THINK RED WRISTBANDS
Similar to the way in which a simple fish symbol has been used by Christians to identify each other for nearly 2,000 years, the red wristband will be a way for Illinois residents to identify each other as individuals who are demanding clean government and a more serious commitment to the principles embodied in the National Republican Party Platform and Renew Illinois' Contract with the People of Illinois.
THINK RED wristbands are a low-key, simple, but yet public display of unity and fellowship.
The wristbands are designed for all age groups. This is truly a "banding together" that any Teenage Republican could share with Congressman Henry Hyde and the Speaker of the House.
